Face to Face

We subconsciously connect symmetry with beauty. Taken to an extreme it can seems too perfect, surreal; it can affect us deeply.

In the multi-panel work “Face to Face” I took portraits I had made and mirrored the faces to create an appearance of symmetry. Removing most of the facial details allows the viewer to imagine the shapes of faces in the wood grain of the veneers produced by the process I have shown in The Woods. Beautiful and haunting, the floating faces are about attraction and abstraction.

The works in “Eye to Eye”are printed on fine art paper. This takes the concept of subtraction and symmetry to its next level. There is an Asian inspiration to them and a feeling of reflecting the gaze of the viewer.
